Whatever Happened to Donna Troy?

Graduation Day has now passed, taking with it the life of Donna Troy, Wonder Woman’s sister. But what exactly happened to the Amazonian Heroine? Here is a summary of the events leading to her death.

By day Donna Troy was a confidant, loving woman and amazing hero. She had gone through many guises, Wonder Girl, Darkstar, and Troia being just a few of them. In each one Donna had prided herself as part of a family. As a Titan Seed, as a Darkstar, as the wife of Terry Long and the mother of their son Robert, as a member of the Titans in their many incarnations or as the sister of Wonder Woman and member of the Wonder Family, Donna could be seen to flourish among her companions. For Donna Troy, there would always be a family in which she would be needed and one which she would need herself.

But this was not so in her dreams. In her dreams, Donna had become a fierce Amazonian Warrior, a lonely combatant in an eternal War with demons and darkness. Night after night she would taste blood in her subconscious, and night after night she welcomed the challenge.

Still, in the waking world Donna remained largely unaffected, remaining the ‘den-mother’ of the Titans. Until the safety of her family became threatened, and her world changed. When a futuristic android initiated an attack on her friends, Donna was there for them as their friend and companion. As Troia, she was their champion and fought to defend her loved ones as best she could, the fierce Amazon Warrior within seeping through.

When her closest companion, Dick Grayson: Nightwing had his own doubts about their abilities to cope with the conflict, Donna rallied around him giving the counsel he needed. And he did the same for her concerning her dark dreams. The two were bonded in the way they guided each other. When Cassie Sandsmark, the newest heroine to hold the Wonder Girl mantle questioned her own place in the wake of the attack on her Young Justice team-mates, Donna reminded her of the legacy they both carried after Wonder Woman and the responsibility of their immense power.

But after the counsel of war, Donna Troy was ill prepared for the horror she would next face. The death of a friend, Lilith, at the hands of a robotic menace fashioned after Superman himself. Donna couldn’t save Lilith, but she could ensure that no one else in her family would face the risk any longer. Once more the warrior in Troia was roused, single-handedly taking on the robot before it could cause any more damage.

Not once did she relent in her opposition to the danger before her, or the defence of her friends. She carried on without pause, unleashing all that power that was within her, and the rage that the loss of a loved one could cause. She fought like a true Amazon. But even that wasn’t enough. And like Lilith before her, Donna fell before the robot’s power.

Though her efforts had been enough to save the rest of her family and weaken the robot significantly to the point of eventual defeat, Donna’s own life was lost. After the battle heroes gathered, tears were shed and Donna’s body buried. The loss was mourned.

But elsewhere, Donna awakened in an afterlife all too familiar, in a world of Demons and Darkness, red skies and high peaks. And Donna once again took her place as a warrior, ready to continue the battles of her dreams.
