CARRY ON HENRY | 1971 89 Mins Colour | Rating: ********* | | CAST King Henry VIII...............Sid James Thomas Cromwell.............Kenneth Williams Sir Roger de Logerley........Charles Hawtrey Queen Marie.............Joan Sims Cardinal Wolsey............Terry Scott Bettina...........Barbara Windsor Lord Hampton of Wick........Kenneth Connor Francis King of France........Peter Gilmore Earl of Bristol...........Peter Butterworth |
| PLOT Despite King Henry VIII is known only to have had 6 wives, it appears he had two more, one of which is Queen Marie of France. When Hanry weds his new dashing bride, he finds out that before going to bed she loves to have a nibble...on garlic. Much to Henry's taste he is not impressed and vows to get rid of her, but she's having none of it. Meanwhile sent to keep her majesty happy, Sir Roger don't seem to mind the Garlic. However when the Queen falls pregnant, Sir Roger is accused of parenthood. All runs smoothly untill the Queen's cousin arrives! | VERDICT What a right Royal romp! This has to be the strongest historical Carry On from the 70's. The story is very strong with a lot of laughs, certainly a very ambitious project for the team and it works well. Sid looks marvellous as Henry, with a rather little sized potion of dialouge from Butterworth proves to be not enough. Joan Sims is on fine form aswell and plays the French Queen superbly. A nice warm Carry On with loads of fun a jewel in the Carry On Crown! | Copyright 2007 Granada Ventures / Carry On Forever
