Sharpe’s Redcoats- (in the books) <o:p></o:p> - ?, Hawthorne, Sergeant, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. Killed in Flanders by a musket ball in the ribs. Mentioned in Sharpe’s Tiger.
- Thomas Garrard, Private, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. Sharpe’s best friend in the 33rd and helps Sharpe assault Gawilghur. Later Garrard transfers to the Portuguese Army where he is a Lieutenant in a line regiment. He later joins a Portuguese Cacadores. He is killed at the San Isidro fortress where he explodes a powder wagon to defeat Brigadier- General Loup’s attack, taking his own life in the process to save Sharpe. - Obadiah Hakeswill, Sergeant, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding later South Essex. The man who recruits Sharpe he is one of the most evil men Sharpe will ever meet. He and Captain Morris lies to have Sharpe flogged so that he can try and get his lover Mary Bickerstaff, Sharpe being sentenced to a lethal 2000 lashes though only receiving 201. He is put in with the Tippoos tigers by Sharpe for betraying him and Lawford to the Tippoo but unfortunately they had been fed. In Triumph he lies again saying Sharpe assaulted Morris. Hakeswill murders Colonel McCandless at Assaye and is then put in with the Elephant but again the wily Sergeant escapes. In Fortress Hakeswill tries to have Sharpe killed by Naig’s brother but again is foiled and deserts to join Dodd’s Cobras inside Gawilghur. Sharpe finds him after the assault and shoves him into the snake pit after taking back all his lost jewels. No one knows how he gets out and he reappears in Company to find Sharpe a Captain while he joins the South Essex. Tries to assault Theresa in Elvas but is foiled by Harper and Sharpe. Hakeswill then frames Harper for theft and Harper is stripped of his rank and given 60 lashes. In the attack on the dam at Badajos he tries to shoot Sharpe but only wounds him. He then strips Sharpe’s riflemen of their prided green jackets. During the storming of Badajos he hides himself and murders a Lieutenant who tries to move him on. Hakeswill then, after Wellington’s troops finally break through he tries to rape Theresa and held a bayonet to Sharpe’s daughter’s throat and murders Lieutenant Robert Knowles but is foiled by the arrival of Sharpe and Harper. He then deserts and appears in Enemy as ‘Colonel’ of Pot au Feu army of deserters and he rapes, murders and tortures those he decides on. The deserters are beaten and Hakeswill temporally escapes twice before he murders Theresa and is given to Sharpe by Colonel Dubreton. - Sir Arthur Wellesley, Colonel, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. Commanded the 33rd when Sharpe was a Private. He commands a brigade in Harris’ army and commands the army in Triumph and Fortress and gets one of his best victories at the battle of Assaye. He then commands the British Army in the Peninsular War and shares Sharpe’s life right up to Waterloo, becoming the first Duke of Wellington and a Field- Marshal in the process. - Jed, Mallinson, Private, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. Member of the Light Company. Killed in the attack on the Tope. Sharpe’s Tiger.
- ?, Green, Sergeant, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. The junior sergeant of the Light Company he is frightened of Hakeswill but helps Sharpe in the assault of Gawilghur. Sharpe’s Tiger and Fortress.
- William Lawford, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding later Wellington’s Staff, later South Essex. The nephew of Colonel McCandless he was but a junior Lieutenant when he went on a mission with Sharpe to Seringapatam where he spent time in the Tippoo’s prisons and taught Sharpe to read and write enabling the young Sharpe to become a Sergeant. He later is promoted to Captain for his deeds in Seringapatam but does not reappear until Eagle where he is a full Colonel on Wellington’s Staff. After Talavera he is given the command of the South Essex and keeps it until he loses an arm in the storming of Ciudad Rodrigo. He goes home to become a prominent politician and tries to protect the government in the Foulness affair to protect his office and almost loses. - Charles Morris, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. Sharpe’s company commander he is a lazy coward and conspires to have Sharpe flogged with Hakeswill. He is assaulted by Hakeswill in Triumph but the blame is put on Sharpe who really assaults him at Gawilghur. He is later a Major in the Dublin garrison. Sharpe’s Tiger, Triumph, Fortress, mentioned in Company.
- ?, Fitzgerald, Ensign, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. A brother to the Knight of Kerry, the 18 year old Irish officer is made brevet- Lieutenant but is wounded in the attack on the Tope by a rocket that sears his arm and head. He is then murdered by Hakeswill. Sharpe’s Tiger
- John Shee, Major, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. A drunken Irishman he is a incompetent commander who sentences Sharpe to 2000 lashes for striking Hakeswill and later dies most probably from alcohol poisoning leaving the regiment to be taken over by Colonel Gore. - ?, Hughes, Captain, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. The first commander of the 33rd’s Light Company but was struck down by a bowel- loosening flux in Calcutta. Mentioned in Sharpe’s Tiger.<o:p></o:p>
- Jem Bickerstaff, Sergeant, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. The husband of Mary Bickerstaff he had died just after the army left Madras of a fever. Mentioned in Sharpe’s Tiger.<o:p></o:p>
- Timothy Hicks, Ensign, 33rd West Yorkshire and Riding. Conspires with Hakeswill and Morris to help get Sharpe flogged but a drinker. Sharpe’s Tiger.<o:p></o:p>

- Hector McCandless, Colonel, East India Company. Having served in the King’s Scotch Brigade for sixteen years he became the Intelligence Officer to Harris in Tiger he is captured by the Tippoo’s cavalry and then rescued by Sharpe and Lawford where McCandless tells them about the mine in the West Wall. Proneto bouts of fever he is wounded in the thigh by a musket ball while in Pohlmann’s camp. He later takes Sharpe to find the deserter Dodd but is murdered by Sergeant Hakeswill at Assaye when he obstructs the Sergeant from arresting Sharpe.
