Friederich von Bulow

Despite joining the army at the age of 13, Friederich von Bulow was a talented musician who loved the arts.

He became an officer in 1772 and served in the early campaigns against Revolutionary France.

Rocked by the loss of his family, he put aside his grief and joined in the battle against Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806.

Another leading figure in the reconstruction of the Prussian army, Von Bulow put the reforms to the test in 1813 and won the clashes at Luckau, Grossbeeren and Dennewitz.

Extremely popular with his men, Von Bulow led them through the carnage at Leipzig.

During the 100 Days' Campaign it was Von Bulow's IV Corps that arrived on the French right flank at Waterloo and sealed victory for the Allies.

Returning home, he died in 1816.
