What happened spike-e?

I was 14, mucking about wiv a tennis ball wiv my mates.It went on a garage roof so I climbed up wiv sum boy to get it.There was a hole in the roof and I sat on a plank of wood that wasn't very strong. It came undone and I fell through and landed on my back on the concrete floor.

How badly did you hurt yourself?

When I landed, two bones fractured in my back and another two were weakened, aswell.Then the boy fell through after me landed on my back and fractured the 2 bones that were weakened.

Did you pass out?

No - I just couldn't breathe. I was mashed up on the floor! The garage was locked so I had to climb out of the hole I had fell through, then drop down - I probably hurt my back then.

What about shouting for help?

Nah, I started walking but the pain got to much - there were pins and needles from my chest all the way down. If ya wanna know what the pain was like, imagine sum 1 slamming u in the back wiv a sledgehammer.

Did you walk home?

Yeah. I was walking wiv this boy and my legs gave way. I couldn't feel them. When you get and pain that bad you can't cry coz u havent got the energy or to breathe. So I crawled home - it was only 5 minutes away but it took half an hour! I knocked on the door and my mum was distraught. She thought I was dead and started crying. She rang an ambulance and they said I had back injuries. I couldn't lie down I wouldn't let them put me on a stretcher. I kept pushing them off, saying "no way"

What did they give you for the pain?

Loads of painkillers I wasn't in a wheelchair and the feeling came back in my legs and I could start moving them a bit. They said I could of died if I had fallen higher up or if i'd fallen a bit differently.

What about wearing a cast?

I had a neck brace and a cast going down from my neck to my waist, which could be taken off when I had a bath. It itched so badly. I wore it for six weeks!

Did you have physio?

They said get a lot of exicise so I used to go swimming. My back plays up now and then - I have to stretch out and it cracks. When I lift heavy things it pulls, but pretty much I lift things for my self.

Did your mum tell you off afterwards?

She said "you're stupid". But she wouldn't care if I smashed the queens house as long as i'm alright. Thats the only time I have ever fractured anything. Oh, apart from my finger. I was in goal and the ball pushed it right back. I reckon I can deal with any pain now!

Do you feel quite hard now?

I wouldn't say hard. I'd say thats the most pain I've - touch wood - experienced.

Did it teach you anything?

Yeah - never ever play in stuff you dont know about. Think about what your doing all the time. I was so stupid, you'll think it'll never happen to you but it does.
